🎬⭐️DIARY OF A PRODUCER🏆🚀Diversify to stay afloat in tough times

Dear all.

it’s been a while as I write this but it was for the most wonderful of reasons. I have been prepping and shooting pretty much non stop since mid march.

I don’t know about you but I love the energy of the set. Much as I enjoy development and writing, I struggle to be too long alone in my room, typing away by myself. I need the adrenaline and the madness of the set. Not necessarily the long hours, not necessarily the clashes of ego nor the cold breakfasts and days under the rain but it is all part of the package. The madness is what keeps me alive and well.

So I was on three projects back to back that couldn’t have been more different. A (very) high end documentary where I was working with an Oscar nominated photographer director and a RTS winning and BAFTA nominated director. It was an amazing team with very strong professionals at the top of their game in every department, all working on a very meaningful project for a very meaningful company. With the common purpose of trying to make documentaries that matter AND that people want to watch.

WHAT I LEARNT: Documentaries tell the truth. When developing documentaries sometimes people don’t realise how much effort goes into developing the treatment - in details. Many treatment are just very superficial and that’s why the project doesn’t get commissioned. The director needs to clarify more in detail, what is he / she trying to say.

TIP: work hard on the STORY PART your treatments! 300 words is just not enough! Expand!!!

Next I was meant to work on short for a very good friend of mine. But as I was starting a got a phone call to work on a videogame. For much longer period of time and full rate. I couldn’t say no.

What was the next project? A videogame…

A videogame?

Have you ever worked on a. Videogame?

Me neither. And it was an amazing experience. I had to think completely outside the box to understand hoe it works, how to shoot it and how to schedule it and not get frightened by shooting 14 pages a day.

Bizarrely it all made sense.

See you next time as I will tell you all about what I experienced while filming a videogame.

Watch our calendar for our May updates.

Happy shooting.
